The Borno State Government said on Sunday that it spent N180 million on the construction and rehabilitation of the Maiduguri Central Abattoir in order to improve hygiene in the meat production facility.

The Manager of the abattoir, Alhaji Baba Maizannah, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri.
He said that the amount was spent on the construction of two meat storage stores, seven units of staff administrative block, boreholes, water tanks, and the purchase of two generators.
According to him, the gesture was aimed at boosting wholesome meat production and promoting the production of hide and skin in the state.
``The state government had recently approved 70 million free interest loan to our members to boost their businesses.
``We have successfully registered over 5, 000 members who engaged in both hide and skin and livestock trades.
``We equally have 500 butchers in this slaughter house, slaughtering an average of 70 bulls, 200 goats and 150 rams every day,'' he said.
Maizannah said that most of the beneficiaries of the loan were graduates currently working in the abattoir
