The Ekiti State Government had, on Thursday,
March 17, 2016, called a press conference to push forward its claim that Afolabi Akanni had died in DSS custody.

The member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly who was alleged to have died in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been paraded at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

The Ekiti State Government had, on Thursday, March 17, 2016,called a press conference to push forward its claim that Afolabi Akanni had died in DSS custody.
Akanni however appeared to dismiss the claims and spoke to journalists about his health condition.

“I’m not dead. I’m alive, but I’m sick. I have malaria. I have done a test,” he told Punch.
The Ekiti government has accused the DSS of intimidating its lawmakers on the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Meanwhile, the lawmakers earlier alleged that the DSS had offered them a bribe of $1 million to impeach Governor Ayo Fayose.
